OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE:
The primary responsibility of your job position is to assist the Activities Director in planning, organizing, developing, and directing the overall operation of the Activities Department following the current federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations that govern long term care and assisted living facilities. You are delegated the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties.
Activity Program Development Duties: 50% time
Assist in organizing programs for group and individual activities based on residents individualized needs as identified in residents’ health-care plan
Maintain a balance of recreational activities
Help prepare monthly bulletin board indicating future activities, holiday themes, or picture review of past activities
Participate in group activities that are scheduled to provide for maximum involvement by interested residents
Participate in programs for the purpose of improving skills and learning new ideas and techniques
Responsible for transportation of residents within the community from one area to another area where activities may occur
Help coordinate scheduled activities, special events with other departments, and other Vivage Communities.
Shop for Resident independent needs and group programming needs
Activity Program Reporting Duties: 35% time
Communicate resident programs to residents, residents’ families, volunteers, and community staff
Assist in preparing Monthly Activities Calendars indicating scheduled activities and times for coming months which reflect interests identified by the comprehensive assessment, offer activities at hours convenient to the residents (morning, afternoon, some evenings and some weekends), reflect the cultural and religious interests of the resident population, appeal to both men and women and all age groups, living in the community, take place in a variety of locations (i.e., indoor/outdoor and community based activities), and include seasonal and special events
Review the activity supplies and equipment to ensure materials are available to residents
Communicate 1:1 and group activity progress to Activity Director and team members
Participate in the in-service program(s) of the community
Supervise and assist in orienting volunteers
Resident Care Duties: 15% time
Record Resident progress through documentation in the individual Resident medical record. Documentation may include: progress notes, updating a plan of care, daily attendance, 1:1 documentation and Resident assessments/evaluations.
Recognize abnormal signs and symptoms which may signify a physical change in resident’s condition that could require interdisciplinary team intervention.
Help read incoming mail, and address and post outgoing mail upon the resident’s request
All other duties as required
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of special needs and limitations and strengths of individuals living with a variety of diagnosis; methods and techniques used to include residents and engage them in activities; alert to attitudes and feelings of residents; knowledge of/familiarity with, or willingness to learn; handcrafts, skills, social groups, sensory activities, games, and other activities. Ability to be professional in all forms of communication with staff, residents, vendors, volunteers, family members, and the external community. Ability to speak and lead large groups of individuals in the internal and external communities. One of the requirements of the position is to be able to drive the company van for outings, special events, transportation for Resident needs, etc.; company policy states that an employee must be 25 years or older to be added to the insurance.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Education: Minimum High School Diploma or GED. College degree in a related field of study, (human services, social work, outdoor recreation, recreation therapy, occupational therapy) is preferred, but not required.
Experience: Two years of experience in a social, recreational or resident activities program in a health care setting (preferred).
